back en mi isla, car battery dead
three long weekend nights
i walk out to supper
coming & going fashionably late
for dinner at eight
timing for flights angling to land
find my way back as air traffic rush
gears hard to midnight- lights flashing
down below- by th shopping mall lanes
marking th parking lot spaces
…are they tropical oaks?
bright yellow flowers bloom
against long oval leaves & bark
blackened spongy with mold
another eucalyptus cousin?
trapped in narrow soil planters
